Ideas to improve fine motor skills
Fine motor skills are necessary in order for young children to write, cut, and color neatly. These tasks may be difficult for kindergarten students, but there are things you can do at home to help!
- Have your child cut up junk mail over the trash can.
- He/she can massage play doh or a squishy ball in their writing hand while watching TV.
- Draw straight lines, zig zag lines, ad wavy lines on paper and have your child cut on the line.
- Let your child use a one hole punch to punch paper.
- String objects onto a piece of string (Cheerios, Froot Loops, etc.).
- Pick up small items, such as paper clips, with tweezers and drop them into a bowl or jar.
***Be sure your child is using his/her writing hand.
